Day 1

Sat. Nov. 8: ARRIVAL IN HANOI
Upon arrival at Hanoi Noi Bai Int’l Airport and after clearing the immigrations and customs, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel for check-in. Remainder of the day is free at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Hanoi. (D)

Day 2

Sun. Nov. 9: HANOI CITY TOUR
After breakfast, today’s full day city tour of Vietnam’s capital city with ochre-colored colonial style buildings, tree-lined avenues and many lakes. Set out on a visit to the Temple of Literature to have an overview of Hanoi’s culture and history at the outset of the trip. Then visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, an imposing monument made of generous amounts of marble and granite. Continue visiting the lotus shaped One Pillar Pagoda in the form of a lotus, it emerges from the water and rests on a single stone pillar. It contains a statue of the Goddess of Mercy with its legendary “thousand arms and a thousand eyes”. We will also stop to see the Beaux Arts style Opera House and lovely Quan Thanh Temple. In the afternoon, visit the Museum of Ethnology to enhance your understanding of Vietnam's diverse culture through its unique presentation of objects & dress from daily life. Next visit the Fine Arts Museum. Then, enjoy a cyclo ride through the Old Quarter of “36 streets and 36 wares” to witness the vibrant life along the streets of the Dong Xuan market. In this part of town each colorful street is devoted to a particular craft or ware. You are pedaled among the quaint French buildings along Shoe Street, Silk Street and Banner Street (to name just a few), ending at historic Hoan Kiem Lake, the social center of Hanoi. This evening attend a traditional water puppet show, a uniquely northern Vietnamese art form especially designed for depicting scenes from rural life and many episodes of national history. Transfer back to your hotel. Overnight in Hanoi. (B,L)
Day 3

Mon. Nov. 10: HA LONG BAY CRUISE
Depart your hotel in Hanoi for the drive to Ha Long. Arrive in Ha Long around noon to board our deluxe ship for a wonderful cruise on the emerald-green waters of Ha Long Bay among the 3,000 spectacular limestone islands with a fabulous seafood lunch served on board. Then enjoy leisure time
for swimming and sunbathing. In the evening, you will have dinner on-board while watching the sunset. Overnight on board. (B,L,D)

Day 4

Tues. Nov. 11: HA LONG BAY, HANOI
Enjoy the morning stay on board the cruise ship on the Bay. Brunch is served on board. Arrive at the boat docking station around 11:00AM. Pick-up and transfer back to Hanoi. Check in to your hotel. Overnight in Hanoi. (B,L)

Day 5

Wed. Nov. 12: BINH, TRANG AN COMPLEX, HANOI
Depart your hotel after breakfast and set out on the 2.5 hours drive to Ninh Binh, transfer directly to the boat pier upon arrival and get into a rowing boat to explore the picturesque waterways in the Trang An ecological site. Forested limestone hills contrast the emerald water, caves, lowland and rivers create a mysterious fairytale-like scene. We then visit a network of caves with beautiful stalactites of all shapes and colors. After the boat trip, we will have lunch at a local restaurant and then visit the Bai Dinh Pagoda – the pagoda with many records in Vietnam. This pagoda has the biggest bronze Buddha statue in Vietnam (10 meters in height, 100 tons in weight) and also contains 500 La Han statues. Return to Hanoi in the afternoon. Overnight in Hanoi. (B,L)
Day 6

Thurs. Nov. 13: HANOI, HO CHI MINH CITY (SAIGON)
Breakfast at your hotel and then free at leisure until the transfer to the airport for the flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). On arrival at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is free at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Saigon. (B,D)

Day 7

Fri. Nov. 14: FULL DAY CITY TOUR OF SAIGON
Saigon is the country’s commercial centre and, with around ten million inhabitants and five million motorbikes, a city that never sleeps. Despite the well-documented hustle and bustle, Saigon retains its connections with the past. Pick up at your hotel and take a walking tour to admire Saigon’s historic landmarks. Transfer to Dong Khoi street., or Rue Catinat as it was known in the time of the French occupation, to discover some of the beautiful French colonial buildings built in the late 19th and early 20th century. View the splendidly restored exteriors of the Opera House and the former Hotel de Ville which are still two of the finest buildings in Saigon. Wander up to the Notre Dame Cathedral, a red brick edifice with twin spires based on the original construction from Paris. (Visit outside only as it is under renovation now). Then head across the square to the Central Post Office, designed by the French architect, Gustav Eiffel, before he had risen to fame for the Eiffel Tower. Then, visit the former Presidential Palace, the headquarters of the Saigon Government during the war with the United States, is a short drive away and reveals the history of Saigon during its turbulent recent past. In the afternoon, head out of the city centre on a short drive to District 5 to visit Thien Hau temple, built by the Cantonese congregation in the early 19th century to honor the Goddess of the Sea. The temple’s ornate interior courtyard is always full of life as worshippers from the local Chinese community come to offer their prayers. Take time to make a wish, write it on a small card and attach it to one of the incense coils in the local custom. Next you will visit Chinatown, which is the convergence of the Chinese living together in District 5. Saigon, has still preserved their precious culture, religion as well as architectural dating thousands of years. It has also been one of the magnificent attractions. End your tour today with a stroll around the bustling Ben Thanh Market - a fantastic place for shopping (B,L)
Day 8

Sat. Nov. 15: MEKONG DELTA TOUR
Pick up at your hotel at 8:00 AM. Depart after breakfast for about a two hours’ drive that can capture green rice paddies and tropical fruits in Mekong Delta. Depart for Cai Be via Trung Luong Expressway. Upon arrival in Cai Be, have a boat ride to the site of a renowned wholesale floating market on the Tien River. This site provides insights to the local trading tradition that has changed due to the age of the modern society when more terrestrial transportation and high technique of agriculture have dominated everywhere. Here you can realize how diverse the area is and how rich orchard gardens are, which makes it the fruit basket of Vietnam in the lower part of the Mekong River. Ramble through small villages where you will uncover the beauty of an ancient house and learn about the indigenous culture. Make a short visit to a small family business where the locals make coconut fudges and crispy rice popcorn. Savor delicious fresh fruit and feel the slow rhythms of Southern Vietnamese folk music – a kind of music entwined with the life and culture of the Mekong Delta people. Paddle through small canals – an exciting experience since you can look around, unwind, and soak up the wonderful atmosphere of the Upper Mekong Delta. Lunch at a local restaurant. Take a boat ride back to Cai Be for the trip back to Ho Chi Minh City. (B,L)
Day 9

Sun. Nov. 16: SAIGON AREA TOUR
In the morning after breakfast, pick up at your hotel and drive to the Cu Chi tunnels. The tunnel complex was initially started in 1948 to protect the Viet Cong guerrillas from the French air and ground sweeps. The tunnels also served as communication routes, storage facilities for food and weapon caches as well as hospitals and living quarters for guerrilla fighters throughout the war with the USA. A visit to the underground villages will provide a better understanding of the tunnels’ history, the hardship of life underground and the Vietnamese resilience during combat. Lunch at local restaurant and transfer back to Saigon. Remainder of the day is free at leisure. (B,L)

Mon. Nov. 17: RETURN FIGHT HOME OR EXTENSION TOUR TO CAMBODIA
Enjoy the day at your leisure until your transfer to the airport for your return flight home.

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. Upon arrival at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, meet your driver and guide, then transfer to your hotel for check-in. Remainder of the day at your own leisure. Dinner this evening at a local restaurant including an Apsara Dance Show.

Day 11

Tues. Nov. 18: ANGKOR THOM, TA PROHM, ANGKOR WAT
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning, visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom (12 century): the South Gate with its huge statues depicting the churning of the ocean of milk, the Bayon Temple, unique for its 54 towers decorated with over 200 smiling faces of Avolokitesvara, the Phimeanakas, Bapoun Temple, the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Then, visit Ta Prohm, one of the area’s most beautiful temples. Ta Prohm has been relatively untouched since it was discovered and retains much of its mystery. Lunch is included at local restaurant This afternoon, visit the most famous of all the temples on the plain of Angkor: Angkor Wat. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. Enjoy wonderful sunset views from the top of Bakheng Hill. Return to your hotel for your overnight stay. (B,L)
Day 12

Wed. Nov. 19: BANTEAY TEMPLES, TONLE SAP LAKE
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning, visit some of the beautiful temples in this area, including the beautiful temple of Banteay Srei which was built in the late 10th century and was dedicated to the Hindu God. Banteay Srei means “citadel of the women” and Banteay Srei has some of the best carvings of all the temples. Then, visit Banteay Samre, built in the third quarter of the 12th century. After that, we’ll make a short visit at Preah Dak village for a short tour, observing the life of Cambodians in this area. Lunch is included at local restaurant In the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride on the Tonle Sap Lake at KAMPONG PHLUK VILLAGE. This is the largest permanent fresh-water lake in South East Asia and flows into the Tonle Sap River, joining the Mekong in Phnom Penh. We will see a fishermen's "floating village" with floating schools, floating police station, etc. It is the same as a big village but it floats on the lake, and the "village" moves from place-to-place following water levels and current. Overnight at your hotel in Siem Reap.
Day 13

Thurs. Nov. 20: KULEN MOUNTAIN, 60 METERS ROAD
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning, head out of the town to visit the birthplace of the Khmer Empire Phnom Kulen, about 2 hour drive out of Siem Reap. The mountain is considered sacred and is the site where King Jayavarman proclaimed independence from Java in 802 and where the cult of the linga began. Linga’s are phallic-like, fertility statues that were worshiped by the king. Jayavarman had thousands of lingas carved into a sandstone river bed and the river diverted so he could bathe in the holy waters. At the top of Phnom Kulen is a pagoda where Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims come to worship. The mountain is also favored by locals who come to admire the waterfalls and swim in the cool pools. Lunch is included at local restaurant. In the afternoon, return to Siem Reap where you can enjoy sightseeing at 60 meters road. An evening at 60 meters road is like going for dinner, Cambodian style, and it’s buzzing every single night. It’s a long road lined with mats for hire, street food sellers, and a small funfair; it’s an evening picnic and barbecue haven – the perfect place to relax and spend quality time with friends. Day 14

Fri. Nov. 21: DEPART/ARRIVAL USA
After breakfast and check-out, transfer to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. On arrival transfer to the international terminal for check-in for your return flight to the USA. Arrive in San Francisco the same day
